I'm a Slacker/Fall Trends

Arggh! I keep abandoning my blog! I am a HUGE procrastinator/slacker and that's something I really need to work on. In fact, my October resolution is to post at least every other day for the rest of the month. I was going to say every day, but I think that's a bit ambitious.
So anyway, in order to give this post a point, I'm going to discuss fall trends.
One I'm particularly excited about is...PLAID! Yay! It's finally back in! I got the most adorable plaid flannel shirt at Abercrombie the other day. I was looking at some on the website and the one I liked was sixty-eight dollars, which was unlikely to happen. But when I got to the store, it was $28.99 and the 50% off! I can't tell you how happy I was about that. Here's the link: http://bit.ly/nl6d8j I got it in Navy Plaid.

The other trends I've been hearing about are mainly in nails. The colors are all traditionally dark, of course, but the shades themselves are very specific. I'm just going to put a list here (I have them all written 0n the whiteboard above my desk!):
  • Deep, dark reds Ex.) OPI Got the Blues for Red
  • Wine Ex.) Essie Limited Addiction
  • Gold Ex.) OPI Spark de Triomphe
  • Chocolate brown Ex.) New York Color Lincoln Center
  • Blue-black Ex.) OPI I Brake for Manicures
  • Gray Ex.) Essie Chinchilly
  • Copper Ex.) OPI DS glow
  • Mustard Ex.) OPI The "It" Color
  • Forest Green Ex.) Essie Power Clutch
Note: The OPI Try It On section on their website is fun.

So, hopefully, I'll be posting more frequently and not be quite so abandoning.

My Top 5 Favorite Songs of the Moment

I have been listening to a few songs non-stop lately. You know those songs that you play over and over again and promise yourself that this is the last time, but when it's over you play it again? Well, these are the ones that I am like that with right now.
1. Rolling in the Deep by Adele- My favorite song right now. I think it is from like the number one album in America. I've listened to this over and over. In fact, I'm listening to it as we speak (actually, more like as I write and you read. Which are probably happening at two different times). One thing-what does 'rolling in the deep' mean? Can anyone explain that to me? Be sure to check out Haley Reinhart from American Idol's version. It is amazing. Maybe even, dare I say, better than the original??
2. Rocketeer by Far East Movement- I know this came out quite a while ago (a year ago? Two?), but I was dreadfully unaware and just recently started listening to it. It is a very VERY different from Like a G6, another song that never gets old. Rocketeer sounds very smooth and urban and kinda black and white, but not like an old movie, like a sophisticated palate (does that even make sense?).
3. Drops of Jupiter by Train- Now, this is a very old song (or so it seems to me). I'd subconsciously heard it for years, but it wasn't until I looked it up on youtube that it all clicked. It's the one that goes "Tell me, did the wind sweep? Did you finally get a chance to sail along the light of day? Head back to the Milky way?" (please excuse me if I got some of the words wrong). This song is very peaceful and makes me feel happy.
4. Judas by Lady Gaga- To be honest, I did not like her song that came before this one, Born This Way, at all. So I was really happy that this was one came out. I think some people are getting way too worked about it. I'm pretty sure she's just using everything as a metaphor. But it has a really upbeat, kinda robotic, tone.
5. What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts- Now, I'm not as addicted to this song as the others, but I once I start listening I play it over about five times. I love the beginning. It just sounds very sad, but steady. I love the way he says the lyrics. I'm also a sucker for Southern accents!

On another note, I'm getting quite sick of Tinie Tempah's Written in the Stars. I was already not a rap fan, but add this to the fact that they play it constantly on the radio, and you have a recipe for dislike.

Revlon Top Speed Fast Drying Nail Enamel Review

So, I have not written a post in a long time. I'm sorry, I have just been so busy lately. I'm having my birthday party the day after tomorrow. AHHHH!!! Also, I am going to an amusement park tomorrow as the end of the year trip. That's right, school ends on Thursday. I don't know about you, but I think that is insanely early. What is it like where you live? We always used to go until around June 18th or 23rd.

Anyways, the point of this post was to right a review of a new nail polish I bought, Revlon Top Speed Fast Drying Nail Enamel. Would I purchase this again? Definitely not. It was $5.99, which I think is way overpriced because you could get an OPI nail polish for just a couple dollars more. But, it was 40% off and I had $1 off coupon, so I decided to try it. I got it in Electric, which is not really a neon, but a bright sunflower yellow color. It's really pretty, I got tons of compliments. But this is where the good things end. It really does live up to it's name: it converted to that semi-sticky state where the brush starts leaving a mark when you sweep it over within five seconds. So I had to get a big glob on and quickly sweep it over my entire nail. Needless to say, my cuticles were a big yellow mess. And it didn't even look good. I got a whole bunch of those tiny little air bubbles on every single nail. What's worse is that it doesn't dry completely and stays sticky for quite a while afterwards. I used about half the bottle just trying to get all my nails done one time. The finish was very matte and rather hideous.

Bottom line: I would not repurchase. This was a terrible nail polish, although I quite like the regular (non-fast drying) ones. At best I would recommend this for your toes, where you won't have to see all those little bubbles up close.

Spring Fashion

I was thinking about the trends for spring and just trends in general. It is really hard, for me at least, to look through a magazine and decode all their fashion pages. So I thought that I'd make a simplified fashion list with just general trends.
1. Coral. Shirts, jackets, jewelry, whatever you have that's coral, dig it out. I took care of this over the weekend (see "Weekend Haul" post) by purchasing an adorable coral cardigan with rose lace on the back.
2. White jeans. It doesn't really matter what kind, but skinny jeans, especially cuffed, are the coolest. I also bought a pair this weekend.
3. Bootcut or flared jeans. These were in about 2 or 3 yeas ago and they're coming back. I saw a girl at the mall with the coolest teal flare jeans. The jeans should be tight until the knee and then flared.
This is about it for now, I'll continually post more as they come. If you have any questions or are wondering if anything else is in style, comment below, or e-mail me at missiemayarose@gmail.com
Kiss Kiss,

Weekend Haul

So over the weekend I went shopping at several different places. I got more things than usual, so I thought, this is a great opportunity to do my first haul!

On Friday I went to see a movie at the mall. After that I went shopping . I first went to Tilly's and bought a gorgeous shirt. You know I love anything to do with roses! This shirt can be worn with jeans, shorts, or capris. It was $17.99. I got a girls size large.

Next, I went to Forever 21. I bought three necklaces and a pair of sunglasses. The necklaces were $1.50 each and the sunglasses were $5.80. I couldn't believe how inexpensive the necklaces were so I bought two kokeshi doll necklaces, one was on a silver chain and one was on a pink, and a silver bird. One side has rhinestones and the other had just the design etched on it. I think I prefer the plain side because the it is more simply beautiful. Another thing I bought was the sunglasses. Now, I've wanted aviators for a while now, so I was really excited to find them for less than six dollars. There was also a black pair for $3, but I thought they were too dark so I went with the purple pair. These sunglasses actually work; they have 100% UV protection.

The next day I went back to the mall, but just to Macy's. At the Clinique counter I got the chubby stick in Super Strawberry. Now, I don't know if you've heard about chubby sticks, but they were featured in at least five different magazines a month or two ago. They're lip crayons that twist up like chapsticks instead of sharpening. They're super moisturizing and have a really pretty shine. Super Strawberry was the brightest color I found, the other two were a bit more neutral. But they are really convenient and I've wanted one for a long time so I'm so glad I got one.

Next, we headed on over to the Nordstrom Rack. This is a great place to get shoes, clothes, and accessories. I got an adorable pair of shoes from Report. They were originally $74.95, reduced to $39.95. I also bought a half-sleeve cropped coral cardigan. The back is all lace, which is soo cool. It was originally $25, reduced to $15.97, then 50% off. I got a pair of white skinny jeans from Jolt, originally $36, reduced to $19.97. The last thing I bought was a simple pink cami from Ivy & Moon, $2.97 from $14. It was so cheap that I didn't even bother to try it on. I mean, it was $3! I love stores like these!

The last place I went to was TJ Maxx. I just got two tins of hard candy, Lemon and Kiwi & Mango, for AIMS testing this week. This has been a really fun post and I think I'll do them more often.

March Favorites

So, for my first official post I'm going to do a March Favorites. I know technically March isn't over yet, but I can't remember what my favorites were for February, so here it goes.
1. Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Peach Satin. I layer it on over my Bare Escentuals blush (which is in Golden Gate) and I have pink cheeks that last all day. But it is very sparkly, so it's not for the shimmer-phobic. It is very inexpensive and easy to apply.
2. The Body Shop Concealer. I have it in 01, the lightest shade. It covers everything and blends in well. The only problem I have with it is that I can't find a pencil sharpener big enough to sharpen it. But it lasts a long time and is only $11.
3. The Stila Pon Pon Gerebera eyeshadow trio. There's a dark brown, a medium pink, and a light pink. The colors are absolutely beautiful and I think they would go with any eye color. The brown is for your lid, the medium pink for your crease, and the light pink is supposed to be a liner, but I use it as a highlight. It's hard to say, but the result is fantastic.
4. Desperate Housewives. I started watching the first season on Netflix on my Wii a couple months ago and now I'm on the seventh. This show is so good, it reminds me of Pretty Little Liars. Every season there's a new mystery, but there is a good amount of humor and day-to-day struggles of the women on Wisteria Lane.
5. The song 'Stereo Love' by Edward Maya. I'd heard it on the radio a lot, but i never knew what it was. Look it up, I think you'll be surprised about what it's like. Bonus: The artist has an awesome name.
I think those are all my favorites for this month. I look forward to posting more and more often.
